Who Cares?

Psalms 142:4 “no man cared for my soul.”

This Bible verse is really disturbing. Have you ever been in a situation were you think that nobody cares about you? The lack of care can be the result of an absence of a shepherd in your life. It also can be a reflection of a spiritual problem of isolation.

David was hiding in a cave when he did this Prayer.

Lack of compassion is a disease that has attacked the Church and we are unable to see the world through the eyes of Jesus

Matthew 9:36-38
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Jesus wasn’t their shepherd because he affirms that the crowd that was following him had no shepherds.

Jesus told the disciples: You are to become the shepherds and you need more help so pray that God will send the new labourers.

If you notice someone in a Church that feels isolated or that nobody cares then YOU have the job of caring for them.

The Bible is a book filled with meaning and blessing. However, some passages are very disturbing.

Psalms 142:4 “no man cared for my soul.”

This Bible verse has really bothered me. I believe there are literally billions in our world tonight about whom nobody cares. We can say that millions live in this world with no one to pray for them, tell them about Jesus or to live a Christian witness before them. Sadly, there are many Christians who are saved, hell proof, heaven bound, etc, who do not care about the souls of the lost.

Passion for souls is a burden for those who are travelling to eternity in Hell. Only God’s love in us can give us the ability to care for them.

Fishers of Men

Luke 5:10 “… and Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”

Mark 1:17 “And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

Simon was afraid for his own life because he realized that Jesus had done a tremendous miracle and feared for his soul.

When you truly follow Jesus you become a soul fisherman. This should be natural in us. If a Christian is not bringing souls to the Kingdom something is not right.

Psalms 142:4 “no man cared for my soul.”

When you show that you care you catch a soul for the Lord. In order to do so you must have 100% assurance of your Salvation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Charles Spurgeon said the following,
“His word is—Follow me, not merely that you may be saved, nor even that you may be sanctified; but, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Be following Christ with that intent and aim; and fear that you are not perfectly following him unless in some degree he is making use of you to be fishers of men. The fact is, that every one of us must take to the business of a mancatcher. If Christ has caught us, we must catch others. If we have been apprehended of him, we must be his constables, to apprehend rebels for him. Let us ask him to give us grace to go a-fishing, and so to cast our nets that we may take a great multitude of fishes. Oh that the Holy Ghost may raise up from among us some master-fishers, who shall sail their boats in many a sea, and surround great shoals of fish!”
God Cares and so do we!

We are living in times when fewer and fewer people care.

2 Timothy 3:1,2 warns, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves…”

You might be in a difficult situation and tempted to think that nobody cares. Remember the verse? Psalms 142:4 “no man cared for my soul.” Well I care, and God cares, and anyone who has the love of God in their soul should care too.

Caring is the hallmark quality of a true Christian

The defining character trait of a genuine born-again believer is that THEY CARE! It’s been said that the biggest problem in America today is apathy, but who cares? Do you care? You should! God cares!

The Word of God certifies that God DOES in fact care about us.

1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

Yes God Cares! We Care! This is why we need to develop a passion for souls and become “Fishers of Men”.

I read a very funny Tweet by @RickWarren: “If a church isn’t reaching out, it’s passing out.”

Most Churches are passing out because people really don’t care about others. If you feel that have no love for others you need to spend time in the presence of God and allow him to transform you.

Psalms 142:4 “no man cared for my soul.”

The apostles didn’t become Fishers of men overnight. They had to FOLLOW HIM. So I want to challenge you today to follow Jesus and to develop a true passion for souls.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
And he who wins souls is wise.

Show that you CARE!
